Advisory Boards The East Grand Rapids City Commission is assisted in its decision making process by several appointed advisory boards. These commissions work with citizens and staff to research, debate, and solve problems or issues. Some commissions have the authority to approve certain items, while others forward issues to the City Commission for final determination. The county commissions also set the salaries and benefits of the road commissioners. CRAM Position: The County Road Association of Michigan (CRAM), which represents all of Michigan’s road commissions and county road agencies, is opposed to this legislation unless several factors are addressed.

The city has established a number of boards and commissions. Each of these serves a different role with most being advisory in nature. Some are state-mandated and others are purely a local creation; however they all make significant contributions to the community and its betterment. The State Bar of Michigan shall aid in promoting improvements in the administration of justice and advancements in jurisprudence, in improving relations between the legal profession and the public, and in promoting the interests of the legal profession in this state.

The Board of Review is a three-member board of City taxpayers appointed annually by the Clare City Commission. The Board of Review meets each March to receive petitions from property owners requesting valuation adjustments to their property and each July and December to consider administrative corrections to the tax roll. The following City Boards and Commissions have been established by the City Council according to Section of the City Charter. Boards and Commissions are generally responsible for the policy making and first level of decision making for various functions essential to the operation of the City.
