My exception to that rule is, A Shining Season. I don't know why the John Baker story appeals to me so much but it is a book that truly restores my faith in the Human spirit.

I read this book about once a year and it always feels like a converation with a good friend/5. Directed by Stuart Margolin. With Timothy Bottoms, Allyn Ann McLerie, Constance Forslund, Ed Begley Jr. Chronicles the Career of University of New Mexico Track Star John Baker, who later became an Elementary school teacher and Track Coach.

His career was tragically cut short from Cancer passing away in his 20's. The Elementary school he taught at (Aspen Elementary)/10(6). “A Shining Season” does a great job of reminding the reader that a short life does not have to be a life without value. It is well-written, encouraging, and full of hope.
