LITHIC IDENTIFICATION AND ANALYSIS PURPOSE The purpose of this class is to give members of the Arizona Archaeological Society a working knowledge of, and the ability to, identify and sort lithic materials found in Arizona. The course is intended to focus on a specific site, a series of related sites, or a region of the state. Among topics of the other papers are the western Bayuda Desert at the end of the third and during the second millennium BC: archaeological heritage, the exploration of the coronation road of Meroe's kings between Meroe and Jebel Barkal, and lithic materials from a Late Nubian complex Middle Stone Age site in the Bayuda Desert: Goat Mountain.

United KingdomFollowers: LITHIC TECHNOLOGICAL ORGANIZATION IN THE THREE RIVERS REGION OF THE MAYA LOWLANDS Abstract by David Michael Hyde, M.A. Washington State University December Chair: William Andrefsky, Jr. This thesis presents the results of an investigation into the lithic technological organization as they relate to the political, social, and economic.

Representing work by a mixture of veterans and a new generation of lithic analysts, Contemporary Lithic Analysis in the Southeast explores fresh ideas while reworking and pushing the limits of traditional methods and hypotheses. This work starts with a brief history of interpretation, bringing the reader up to date with how lithic studies have been conducted over the past three centuries. The disparate knowledge concerning scatters in Scotland led to the creation of the Scottish Lithic Scatters Project, which is outlined in chapter one. Of specific concern is the Lithic Scatters Database, and its analysis.

Lithic analysis is the study of those objects, and can entail things like determining where the stone was quarried (called sourcing), when the stone was worked (such as obsidian hydration), what kind of technology was used to make the stone tool (flint knapping and heat-treatment), and what evidence there is of the tool's use usewear or residue studies).

Bond. In archaeology, lithic analysis is the analysis of stone tools and other chipped stone artifacts using basic scientific techniques. At its most basic level, lithic analyses involve an analysis of the artifact’s morphology, the measurement of various physical attributes, and examining other visible features (such as noting the presence or absence of cortex, for example).

Lithic scatters are the most abundant class of evidence relating to Late Upper Palaeolithic and Mesolithic activity in southern Britain. Many such scatters, especially those from surface and ploughsoil contexts, have long been characterised as being of low-interpretive value and have been marginalised both in academic studies of the periods and in the wider context of protecting and managing Author: Lawrence Billington.

Lithic Technology and Artifact Analysis. Stone (lithic) artifacts are important in archaeology because they are often one of the few types of artifacts that preserves well. As you will notice in lecture, most of the archaeological record through the first few million years of human prehistory is made up of.
